THE WEEKEND REPLAY

Welcome back to another Weekend Replay here at Doors at Seven! I have a great playlist of tunes lined up for you this week. Get your headphones ready, and let’s begin.

Rock music kicks off with Cassadee Pope’s new single “Eye Contact.” The country-turned-rock singer-songwriter continues the streak of stellar rock singles from the past two years. Her powerful vocals mesh perfectly with the alt-rock production, on top of her strong writing abilities. Olivia Rodrigo released the deluxe edition of her hit album GUTS, with the addition of five new tracks. “so american” is the highlight, marking Rodrigo’s first released love song. With a bouncing indie-rock production and rock-style vocals, the love-ridden sound fits her extremely well, as she details the gushy experiences of a new love.

Alternative music is led by MooseCreek Park with a new acoustic version of their 2023 track “Dash O’Fish.” The track is stripped down to nothing besides a sparkling acoustic guitar track and synths at points. The Long Island-based emo group’s soft sound fits them just as well as their more hardcore tracks, displaying a vast versatility. Adrianne Lenker of Big Thief dropped her new solo album Bright Future. The record features “New House,” a sprawling, devastating piano-based track that touches on moments from Lenker’s childhood. Her songwriting is precise at all times, delicately poking at difficult times.

Starting off pop music is Remi Wolf’s “Cinderella.” The indie-pop artist takes inspiration from genres like jazz and disco to make a very uniquely amazing pop track. Wolf’s vocals are stunning at all points across the song, cutting through the groovy production with ease. girl in red released a new single from her upcoming sophomore album I’M DOING IT AGAIN BABY! with Sabrina Carpenter. “You Need Me Now?” is an upbeat breakup track, with whirring guitar riffs and heavy drums. The two artists’ vocals blend seamlessly together, with Carpenter popping up at the end for a solo verse and a combined chorus between the two at the end.
