REVIEW OF THE RISING POP ARTIST’S NEW SINGLE

Minnesota-born artist METTE returned to the music scene in 2023 with her new song “MAMA’S EYES” after releasing one standalone single in 2021. The track was a new hit, racking up 5.2 million streams (and counting), and cementing her as an artist to keep your eye on. 

Since then, Spotify crowned METTE as one of their U.S. Pop Rising “Artists to Watch” for 2024. Amazon Music also highlighted her as one of their 13 breakthrough artists to watch for the year. METTE’s latest single, “DARLING DRIVE,” features Scottish producer and singer Sam Gellaitry, and came out on Jan. 11. 

The groovy, psychedelic pop track is a stunner. The artists go back and forth between their vocals, with each getting their own time to shine. For the chorus, though, they unite, meshing their voices together flawlessly. The slinking bass track and warbled background vocals combine to make a truly great pop song (and a potential club classic). The production is incredibly well made and polished to perfection, while METTE’s vocals sound unlike any other voice in the pop music realm today. 

Each single she releases further solidifies METTE as a tour de force in pop music. With a string of singles and an EP from the past few years, each release only makes people want more.
