THE WEEKEND REPLAY

Welcome back to another Weekend Replay here at Doors at Seven! I have a great lineup of new tunes for you this week, so get your headphones ready and let’s get started.

Kicking off rock music is The Early November’s new single “The Fool.” Starting off as a mid-tempo, soft-spoken alternative track, it breaks loose in the chorus into an alt rock banger. The New Jersey-originated duo’s new song stands out for its ability to shape shift as it progresses, with guitar tracks swaying in and out and the tempo changing throughout. Thesaurus Rex dropped their new track “I Won’t Hold My Breath.” The new indie-rock bop from the Brooklyn-based group is reminiscent of early work from The Strokes, with ricocheting guitar licks and strong vocal melodies.

Cigarettes After Sex released the second single from their upcoming third studio album X’s. The cult classic alternative group’s new track “Dark Vacay” is a laid back song ready for what the title suggests- a beach sunset maybe set to an apocalypse (no pun intended). The vocals are haunting, the guitars are very reverbed, and it all comes together for a perfectly moody song. “Shudder” from Jelani Aryeh is a summer-ready indie-pop cut. Aryeh’s smooth vocals glide over the upbeat drum and guitar track, making it very ready to be a smash.

Leading pop music this week is Slow Pulp’s cover of “Hanging By A Moment” by Lifehouse. The indie group does the song a great amount of justice, with a catchy guitar melody and airy vocals. Last but certainly not least is “Fortnight,” the first single from Taylor Swift’s THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT. Featuring Post Malone, the synth-pop track sees Swift detailing the worst possible aftermath of a relationship. Touching on topics like alcoholism and infidelity, it sets the foundation for the rest of the pop star’s stellar eleventh studio album, while her and Malone’s voices mesh together perfectly.
