THE WEEKEND REPLAY

Happy April and welcome back to another Weekend Replay here at Doors at Seven! I have a great batch of songs for you this week (and that’s not an April Fool's joke), so get your headphones ready, and let’s get started.

Kicking off rock music this week is “Command Patrol” from Philly hardcore group Beef. The song sees a strong vocal performance and heavy, whirring guitar and drum tracks. The group’s new track comes off of their also-new EP Take It As A Threat, featuring three other new tracks and one previously released single. Annie Clark’s St. Vincent dropped the second single off of her upcoming album All Born Screaming. “Flea” is a groovy rock track with a heavy drum track courtesy of none other than Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl. Clark produced her entire forthcoming record herself, and the results for the first two singles are some of her best work to date.

Leading alternative music is Gamblers with their new single “Agita.” The alternative rock group released their new album Pulverizer along with the standout track. It has a summer-ready, windows-down feeling to it, with a catchy melody in the chorus and themes of yearning for requited love. Vampire Weekend is gearing up to drop their new album Only God Was Above Us, and dropped a new single off of it titled “Mary Boone.” The track evolves throughout, with multiple different sounds blending to make up a stellar song. With choral voices, electronic breakdowns, and bare vocal sections, it stands out for its ability to change and still sound cohesive.

The reclusive queen of pop Lorde (finally) has made her return with a contribution to A24’s tribute album to Talking Heads’ Stop Making Sense. Her cover of “Take Me to the River” is a stunning tribute, with a bouncing drum and piano beat. The track marks the artist’s first release in three years since her last album Solar Power. While promoting the release of the cover on her Instagram story, Lorde teased that there’s “magic to come,” hinting at her upcoming and highly-anticipated fourth studio album. Rising pop star Maude Latour released the first single off of her upcoming debut full-length record. “Too Slow” is a buzzy, coming-of-age pop track reminiscent of Lorde herself, with buzzing electronic sounds and echoed vocals throughout the background. Latour sings in total control of the scenes, with strong vocals demanding to be listened to.
