The Weekend Replay

Welcome back to this week’s edition of The Weekend Replay here at Doors at Seven! I have a great set of tunes lined up for you this week, so get your headphones ready.

Rock music is led by Taylor Acorn’s “Everything Sucks.” The singer’s single from her new EP Certified Depressant continues the rock sound she has created through previous singles with a more upbeat feel to it (and read our review for it here). She touches on what is going wrong in life throughout the verses and peels back on the choruses where she finds good in the world through her love. “Flood” from The Suicide Disease is an emo rock track that sees the band gravitating to a sound reminiscent of the early 2000s. The production swells up and down throughout, making for a ride of a song. The Sees’ “The Calling” starts off as a slow-paced alternative track that breaks loose midway. It turns into a rock song full of gritty guitar riffs and great percussion to back it up on the instrumental outro. Rock artist Floor Space’s new single “Self-Destruct'' is an alt-rock song that sees them looking at their own actions over a great guitar track. GREENHOUSELAKE’s new song “BBB” is an indie rock cut that shines for its songwriting and guitar sections that especially stick out towards the end.

Noelle Sucks leads alternative music with “Ugly Ugly.” The track is an angsty indie cut where the artist touches on a not-so-good ex-love with shoegaze and rock elements throughout. Briston Maroney’s “Chaos Party” is a standout from the singer-songwriter’s new record Ultrapure. The indie pop song has killer songwriting and hits its peak on the choruses. Andrew X’s new album Driving At Sunset features the highlight “October Winds.” It is a twinkling indie pop song that has great instrumentation throughout and is the perfect song for the end of summer. Jack Antonoff-led group Bleachers released their highly-anticipated comeback single “Modern Girl” on Friday. The song is chock full of saxophone, screeches and the usual Bleachers flair, making for a well-awaited return.

Pop music this week is kicked off by none other than Chappell Roan. The up-and-coming pop star released her debut full-length project The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess on Friday, featuring the stunning “Picture You.” Invoking a vintage sound through the slow-burning production, the songwriting is witty, honest and fully supported by Roan’s stunning vocals. Next is Holly Humberstone’s “Into Your Room,” the newest and best offering so far from her upcoming debut record Paint My Bedroom Black. The poppiest single yet, it brings a new direction to the British singer-songwriter’s upcoming album due out early next month. “Got Me Started” from Troye Sivan is the second single from his upcoming album. The song is a club-ready pop track with stellar production and an amazing inclusion of a certain sample that you just have to hear. Doja Cat’s highly anticipated album Scarlet has been swarmed with controversies since its announcement. It arrived on Friday along with highlight “Agora Hills.” The song plays out as a play on said controversies as she flawlessly sings and raps over the track’s R&B-esque beat, with an irony-filled delivery at times.

That is all I have for you from the world of music this week! Thanks for tuning in and come back next week for another roundup.
